The Caldwell Halls Trust
Caldwell Halls Trust is a registered charity (Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation) < click for constitution> and was established in 2011 to enable community ownership and management of the Halls for the benefit of the community of Torrance.
The Trust Social Committee continues to work to make the best use of the hall and to offer events which are open to the whole community, including St Andrews Ceilidh, Christmas Lights Switch on, Burns Suppers and Ladies Fashion Show.
Caldwell Halls is a community-owned hall in the centre of Torrance East Dunbartonshire. The Halls date from the 1820s and have been refurbished over the past ten years to provide improved community facilities with a modern kitchen and accessible toilets.
The facilities comprise a Main Hall (maximum of 100) and Upper Hall – upstairs (maximum of 30). They are available to let for groups, club activities, events and for private functions, with some level of storage available for regular lets. The Hall offers a back garden which provides outdoor space for group lets and with lighting which enables use in evenings.
Caldwell Halls provide an essential venue for local groups that let space regularly, including pre-fives, cubs, beavers, rainbows, scouts, brownies, guides, woman’s institute, heritage group, dog training, badminton group, keep fit classes, Sunday school and autistic youth support group (Teenscene) as well as for social gatherings and private parties.
Members and Volunteers
Caldwell Halls Trust has free membership open to all residents (16 years and older) living in Torrance and the surrounding district. Members are entitled to put themselves forward to become Trustees and join the Management Committee at the AGM, usually held in November.
